The polka dot family update...
Max is restricted as to where he can go. My friend Natalie and her two children had the italian chicken pox last year so they have no problem hanging out with us. Mark arrived Sunday, July 15. Rather than meet him at the airport--I stayed back at the apartment--we all agreed that I was probably in the last stages of a mild chicken pox outbreak. I can NOW tell the difference between bug bites and chicken pox. We all stayed cooped up Saturday night, Sunday all day and most of Monday (Mark and I escaped for a walk outdoors and an evening gelato thanks to my mom).
We're supposed to go to Rome on Thursday for 4 days and then to Spain on Monday. Today is Tuesday and Ella started getting spots Sunday night. Her spots continued arriving yesterday but seem to have slowed down. It's hard to tell whether everyone is cranky cuz they feel like crap, or because we've been cooped up and it's 95 degrees outside (inside it's about 80). Mark is the only one who has already had chicken pox (although my mom assumed I had had it as a child).
I'm trying to be all cool and relaxed about all of this--but I'm going to be really disappointed if we can't go to Spain. Part of the problem of course is that there's an incubation period of up to two weeks. If we went to Spain and Mark got chicken pox we wouldn't be able to fly back to Italy. We could always rent a car and go that route...we're considering our options.
