Pastries. I'm letting the kids choose which "bar" we go to after breakfast for our daily pastry.
The first pastry below reminds me of my nephew Duncan. It seems so him. It's little enough for kids (about 2 1/2 inches long), but it is so sweet. Basically it's a cone waffle dipped in chocolate and sprinkles. The cone is stuffed with some sort of whipped frosting and then nuts are sprinkled on top. Ella likes them a lot. Personally, they are too sweet for me. Way too sweet. It tastes like a pastry that only a kid could invent.
My favorite, photo 2 down below, is like a flaky, yummy, little piece of crunch stuffed with fluffy, whipped cream. One bite and flakes go everywhere.
Ventured to the open fruit market this morning. The vendors were very nice and I bought nectarines, plums, cantaloupe, tomatoes, lemons.
Tonight we went up on the roof of Natalie's apartment and watched the sunset while eating ice cream.
Notes: Max and I have been having a really tough time getting along. He misses Mark so much. Ella and I are covered with enormous mosquito bites. We move into our own little apartment Wednesday and my mom arrives. I'll take the train to Roma and meet her. It will be really nice to have another presence to balance our family.
